after mukatsuku records summer hammond organ screamer from billy hawks (mukat 052) the label goes deep on an international funk tip. few years ago label manager nik played in france and the promoter pulled out a biosis now 45 that he never knew existed up till then and was generally thought to be a long album track only. an extensive search revealed nothing online including popsike/discogs/ebay except a tropical seller who d just bought a huge caribbean collection with the record included saying he d never seen it before either and he was keeping itâ&#128,¦failing to secure a copy themselves the label licensed it instead and created their own 45 edit which retains all the funk & soul of the elongated album version into a 7 inch friendly format. on the flipside and 1973 tumba safari from afro train get s a funky afrobeat re touch for peak time club play that would save you several hundred pounds on an original if you could actually find a copy !

for the 4th release from our beloved ourselves they ve once again invited a group of friends to serve us up a healthy dose of tasty house and disco. this time, originaltracks from luvless, snacks, siggatunez und jan ketel are on the menu. &#8203,,,, for starters we have luvless from leipzig whose prepared a floor stomper with a side of heavy drums paired with a warm chords- and stringsounds and a groovy bassline...completely love. the berlin duo snacks appear for the first time on ourselves with their track sisters . a delicious disco snack that sounds like an effortless kitchen jam with an extremely funky aftertaste - you re tastebuds will be dancing. hand played bass sprinkled over percussion, guitar licks and building up synths....hopefully you like your snacks authentic...they muste be true musicians...they are!! the one love disco & funk and the other jazz...so does siggatunez. he cuts us up a vibraphonline and sends it on the chase with a chord so delectably deep that not even the side of fat drums can keep up with the bounce and speed it creates but finally gets it and breaks down the club. jan ketel has prepared a desert that at first, tastes like a mere groovy tool but it soon opens up into something bigger and more hectic. it s like you gotta check in at charles de gaulle while in anothher moment the unmistakable flavour of a lush warm rhodes appears...a timeless flavour, and one that you ll never forget.

funkadelic have created an enduring legacy, and the power of their impact is visceral in detroit. their records not only played with genre, but possessed a diabolical sense of humour that led to music domination by the late 70s with parliament, funkadelic, parlet, bootsy’s rubber band and the brides of funkenstein all releasing albums the same year for two years in a row. the music itself is beyond stereotype, but equally huge is that they were a black band not allowing themselves to be limited by anyone else’s notions of who they could be, having a massive impact on the next generation of detroit music, detroit techno. but more than just techno, it is a freedom of thinking that extends beyond boxes, so we included all sorts of today s generation of detroit musicians and producers to show the wide range of music that was funkadelic and how these ideas are still contemporary, they endure and inspire.

with previous form on colors and love fever, remi mazet returns on relatively new label social joy with a deep and refined trip through house music as played by a true musician. there’s a dusky, cinematic quality to the whole ep, from the captivating intro to the sweet rhodes soul of -safran- and on to the broken wheeze of -jazz e-. -shrine- has a more forthright club-ready veneer, while -jammin- brings furthermore machine-oriented grooves, but at all times the devil is in the details, and this record is most devilish indeed. one for all those craving a little more subtlety and flair in their house music.

the newest 12inch on voodoo down records marks the debut appearance of longtime friend of the label jordan lieb aka black light smoke. jordan played an instrumental part in the nyc label scissor & thread, and has spent recent years honing his live set in front of crowds ranging from bpm, robot heart, and fabric. the depression sleeping ep is a collection of tracks from his archives from the past decade that have been updated and remixed. the theme of the record is his struggle with sleep and insomnia. per the artist: releasing these songs form my past reflects my effort to embrace myself, the good and the bad, and to channel my personal battles into a creative process.

a new group strut their way down the bordello boardwalk. the chameleon outfit of yellocat, emblazoned with colour, arrive with dans la boutique and are true to their debut 12- title. a deep wardrobe of styles has been raided for this four track ep. first comes the latin funk of -mi hermano-, a lust laden duet of sweet chords and dancefloor desires, before the lounge romance of -tout a&#768,,, moi.- language is played with, spanish shimmies into french before english takes over the flip. -rivals of mars- is brash interplanetary battle. synthlines glisten against vocoder lyrics in an epic struggle between our world and theirs. the pop-scented warmth of -chasing the light- leads the 12- out, a ballad of late night excess amidst the glass and steel of the city.

s-file is back with his second record in this year. broken and shelter is his new double a side record. shelter is a monster tune with a catchy old skool vox hook, that guaranteed work on the dance floor. ben sims played them early in his nts live show and also the baron of techno, dave clarke played the track as opener in his tomorrowland 2017 set. he sayed also in his white noise show: this is a weapon for all festivals. the second track on the record is a catchy broken beats tune with a catchy chord hook. we hope that you are as much excited as we are about his new record!

aiby returns to vizual with an amazing ep, albeit without the noise. this solo project is deep, dark and freaky and showcases aiby’s love for vintage gear. yet there’s nothing old about these tracks — aiby’s sound is fresh and forward looking with hard driving beats that have just the right amount of wiggle. these tracks sound great played loud and are perfect for deep and dirty late nites. a forthcoming iz & diz remix of “you need a freak” will round out the project quite nicely.

as comfortable being played after manuel göttschings e2-e4 as right before a terekke lo-fi house anthem, it is laced with the melancholy of an early morning post-rave comedown. yet for all the references and name-checking, its a record that is hard to compare to anything else, past or present.

one of detroit’s best kept secrets, rick wade has been producing late night tracks and tapping into the essence of deepness since the 90’s. known for their universal appeal and appearing on over 20 different labels worldwide, soulful, timeless grooves are his signature. growing up in buchanan mi, 1 hour outside of chicago he was influenced by chicago radio station wbmx and the salsoul material and local stations that played the likes of al green and isaac hayes. in 1993 rick and dan bell started harmonie park to release house material and in 1995 rick started another label bass force primarily as an outlet for the booty / bass material that he records under the big daddy rick moniker. this time rick brings us “the depth charge ep”, three tracks of lavish organic deepness, with jazzy rhodes-chords, strings, trumpets, warm lush big sounding pads, combined with soulful vocal samples and crisp beats. london’s westlake72 contributes with a stunning remix of “be there”, injecting a fierce disco groove and vibe.

kalita records release their first in a series of coveted reissues, starting with the three choice cuts from nst cophie s 1980 private press ivory coast afro-disco album mon da center. after moving to paris in 1976 and having played with other well-known bands such as n bamina, osibisa, and with numerous artists including jimmy hyacinthe and papa wemba, mon da center was ernest s first solo album. recorded at studio caroline in paris s 20th sector over the space of one week, this self-funded ultra-rare album regularly exchanges hands for eye-watering prices. pretty much unknown except to the most hardened of diggers, bian kou , e clolo and mioukouna are guaranteed to set any dance floor alight, with hypnotic afro-disco grooves, killer drums and angelic female vocals.

hell yeah is back with more beach ready and boat party styled summer tunes, this time from riccio. this italian producer has long been making essential edits, off kilter grooves and soul kissed house sounds that demand to be played loud and these new ones are no different. described by the label boss as balearic big beat, this ep kicks off with afro chemy, a scorching seven minute tune that builds on a bed of fat drums. the scattered percussion is loose and organic and when the funky bass and colourful xylophone sounds comes in you can t help but cut loose. add in a sexy trumpet line and you have the sound of summer distilled into seven sensational minutes. funky cave will get any party started with its old school drum breaks and cymbal splashes sounding like the ocean when you plunge in on a hot day. busted bass lines add a certain fatness and cosmic keys and steamy guitar licks make this another perfect outdoor anthem. last of all is the blissed out heather, one to drop at sundown after a long day s dancing. the beats are warm and lumpy, the synths smear out to the horizon like gently breaking waves and soulful leads really get your heart swelling. proper.

yandom are not new to the scene. but then again they are. the project has been kicked off by yannick labbe and dominik marz, already renowned producers and djs before they decided to join forces in in january of 2017 with their remix for dekodeko on leipzig-based label ors. yandoms productions are discoid excursions to the dark side a sound spanning from leftfield italo-esque productions to straight up techno-bangers. a sound already loved and played by artists like michael mayer, solomun, kornel kovacs and many more. at the moment, yandom are working on eps following their next release on &nd music (scheduled for september 2017). as djs, yandom deliver an infectious and very musical freestyleapproach, dropping anything from techno to vintage classics and held together by a strong foundation of electronica. a yandom-set is anything but random and yes, they do look as good in reality as on the photos.

first time band anthology - includes 9 unreleased tracks! this fall, the independent literary press all night menu will publish sam sweets hadley lee lightcap, a nonfiction novel that traces the backstories of the three members in acetone, a band that played in los angeles for nine years. though few heard them, their recordings are time capsules of who they were, how they lived, and where they came from. light in the attic has partnered with all night menu to present acetone 1992-2001, the first anthology of the trios music. the book and the album will be released at the same time.
